Breakfast of Jedi's

Nothin' like starting your day sitting across the table from a princess, her Ewok, and my Chewbacca.

Star Wars Party

What do you get when you cross 3 giddy kids, their Halloween costumes and one of the best movie's of all time?  Yup.

Camp Korey

I grabbed a Living Social deal earlier in the month and we decided to drive out and check things out this afternoon, while things were still relatively rain-free.

Mrs. Jan Brett

E and I got to meet and hear a small lecture from our favorite children's book author and illustrator, Jan Brett this evening!  She drew an illustration during her talk and used it to encourage those aspiring artist's in the audience.  She is wonderful.  I've read so much about her, watched a handful of video clips about her and visit her website repeatedly.  And, she's a chicken enthusiast as well, in fact quite a successful poultry shower!

My Early Jack-O-Lantern

E lost her very first tooth this morning (lower right central), it just fell right outa her head when I was brushing her hair in the bathroom.  Her front bottom two teeth have been wobbling around in her gums for the last few months, and her adult teeth have started poking through behind them.  It's a relief and a celebration and just in time for her Kindergarten pictures later today!

* You'll notice the very large gap on either side of her remaining bottom tooth, she's had so much space between them that when they became wiggly they sort of pushed together in the front.

Fairbanks Farm

Took the kids to get a few pumpkins this weekend.  The weather has been outstanding, and I didn't want to miss an opportunity to get a few pictures with them in the sunshine picking out their pumpkins and checking out a few animals.

Sweet Rice Porridge

I believe E's exact words this morning were "It taste's exactly like theirs, it's amazing!"  I tried recreating a favorite dish we order when we're lucky enough to go to our favorite breakfast spot in Ballard.  It seemed easy enough, and it was:

1 14oz. can light coconut milk
1 10oz. package of frozen jasmine rice
1tsp cinnamon
sweeten as desired (honey, brown sugar etc.)
sliced banana
handful of dried cranberries or raisins
and a dusting of cinnamon sugar (they add toasted coconut at the restaurant)

We devoured it on this damp and chilly morning and the chickens loved their small portion of our leftovers.  This one is definitely moving into our winter rotation as an hearty and warming start to our day!  Especially because I can find all the ingredients at Trader Joe's.

Tie One On

So, if you're the proud owner of what most little girls consider to be the most awesome shoes around...you gotta learn to tie 'em up.  She did it!  We've been practicing on and off this summer, but what with the Velcro and slip-on versions of summer foot apparel there wasn't much of a push to get the job done.  But her Gram & Papa bestowed on her for her 6th birthday a pair of the sparkliest, shiniest, light-up shoes you'll ever see and...they have laces.  So in classic E 'go-get-'em spirit she sat down on the stairs and with very little coaching from me pulled it off.  Good job Babe!

Eventually

I knew the seeds we pushed into the earth last April would eventually bloom, just wasn't expecting their timing to be so late. At any rate they are beautiful and a welcomed dash of color to our rapidly fading garden.
