N's First Bike Ride

We got E the tiniest little bike when she was 2. She rode it a lot until it was outgrown and then we lent it out. Well, it's back in the hands of another 3-year-old... One who strangely enough is content to pedal at a snails pace. Just like his sister though, N's is having a little bit of trouble with the pedaling direction and often stomps back to a jolting halt. I have no doubt that very shortly I'll be screaming at him from the front porch to slow down, and stop playing chicken with oncoming traffic.

This clip is almost 2 minutes long and mostly placed here for posterity. Please forgive the gushing motherly instruction and encouragement.

Biker Boy

N loves his little push trike that Mabel is lending him. He hasn't yet figured out the peddling motion, but is taking his job very seriously. Not at all like his older sis, who was so distracted by ringing the bell that she'd slip off! N holds on for dear life! We've taken advantage of the break in the drizzle to do our quiet Mama/Son loops in the neighborhood, and can't wait to add our Molly into the mix!

Sunday, Fun-Day!

The weather was terrific today!  E had her bud Asher spend the night last night and all 3 kids were early risers this morning so we took 'em out to a coffee shop before we bought what I consider to be my very best Craigslist find e-v-e-r!  You'll recognize it from yesterday's post, only this little green seat is ours (the other's was borrowed)!  Yay!  These things normally run for about $100, and we walked away with ours for a twamp ($20)!  We picked up new helmets for the kids, made our first trip to the park as a foursome!  E has had a little bit of trouble transitioning from her beginner bike to this new one (new to her, it was mine growing up) but she's taking the spills with stride & smiles.

And N loves riding up front with his dad.

Mushroom Head

We're getting in gear for our summer bike rides!  In preparation we've been looking for the best way to cart the boy around...we got a trailer off Craigslist and we're test driving a few bike seats to see what will work best for us.  N got to try out this handlebar seat this evening, and wasn't too sure about what was happening; he especially didn't like the round bulbous helmet we strapped on. Although to be fair, the first time I snapped it on I accidentally pinched that tender waddle under his chin...

Hard Shell Hero

Today an EMT truck stopped E on her bike while we were out on a walk. They rewarded her for being safe and wearing her helmet! She is so proud of her certificate!

Driver's Beware!

I'm now on the road sporting my new bike! Well, new to me. D found the old steel-framed, step-through beaut for me on Craig's List, and I love it! My first spin proved to be a bit wobbly as I can't remember the last time I donned one of those contraptions of gears and chains, but it's true; you never forget how. And thankfully, because am in desperate need of free exercise.

I first learned how to ride a tiny blue Schwinn, then graduated to a larger metallic red one (the very one my dad cleaned up and has waiting in his garage for just the right Christmas or birthday present in a few years for E), and now keeping with my brand loyalty this old chocolaty girl! I'll have to outfit her with a rear and front baskets, a new seat probably, perhaps a bell, and eventually switch out the hub, but for now it feels great gliding down the street with the fam all in a row.

* We took our first family bike ride around Green Lake and had a blast!
